The most common questions I’m asked are always about my hardwood floors. People wonder what material I used, what the color of our wood is called and who installed our floors. So today, I’m spilling all the secrets!
When we built our house two years ago, I made sure to get the wood floors I really wanted – light, white-washed oak, wide planks, and no sheen. I didn’t want to have to come back a couple years later and update anything, so I just went for it. The one thing we didn’t do, however, was put hardwood in our three bedrooms upstairs – no idea what I was thinking. We decided this spring that it was time to rip out the carpet and we went for it!
So much for not updating anything – ha-ha!
The Install
My home builder works with a company called NuWay Floors & Interiors. I knew I would hire them to do the upgrade in the bedrooms because they do amazing work in the homes I’ve seen. I’ve had my eye on this project for a few months, but I kept psyching myself out because I thought it was going to be a big ordeal. I didn’t want to have to deal with the mess (and stress) of a renovation!
NuWay’s installers made it so incredibly easy for us though. Not only did they remove our carpets fast, but there was no dust, and everything was kept so clean. All three bedrooms were completed and looked perfect in a matter of only 2 days! My jaw literally dropped as I watched them do it all.
The Floors
Now for the juicy details you’ve all been waiting for – our hardwood floors are called Pacific Coast Tribune Bay by Timeless Wood Floors. Each plank is 6’ long and this wood is a European White Oak with a wire brushed texture and a matte finish.
Keepin’ It Clean
When it comes to cleaning your hardwood floors, you want to keep the following in mind:
The first step is to use a vacuum meant for hardwood floors. This way it’s going to remove all of the dirt, dust, pet hair, crumbs etc. without damaging the surface of your flooring.
The second step is to actually clean your floors. I suggest using a product meant for hardwood floors like Bona Free & Simple Hardwood Floor Cleaner. I do not suggest using vinegar or tide as it can strip your wood and leave a sticky film overtime.
Using a microfibre cloth mop is also recommended as it’s a soft material that won’t damage your flooring. Make sure to wring out your mop thoroughly so the mop is damp and not wet. Too much liquid on your flooring will cause damage.
