Hey everyone, my name is Bailey - I am a mom to a hilarious little girl (who is almost two) with a little man on the way (due in June!). I am a quiet and cautious girl (until you give me a drink or two) and would not be where I am today without the love and encouragement my husband gives me. I have been married for three years now and could not ask for a more supportive/amazing man. We are a family that loves to laugh and behind closed doors goofs around a lot, including a ton of dance parties in every room of the house. I was born in Edmonton and moved to Calgary when I was 4. I have lived in Calgary ever since (minus a few years out east for school) and couldn't imagine raising a family anywhere else.
What is your business and what inspired you to start your business?
littleBug is a baby accessories line that includes teething toys and accessories. Our necklaces and bracelets are designed for moms to wear and safe for babies to chew. We have several other products designed for babies including our top selling rattles and soother clips.
My daughter was the sole inspiration for littleBug. She experienced a lot of pain with teething and the only thing that seemed to soother her was a teething necklace we had purchased through a big name store. I was in complete awe of the price and wanted to be able to offer a simple and more affordable option for other moms who were experiencing the same heartache I was.
What is your proudest moment with your business?
It’s hard not to say “the happy faces of every baby that enjoys our product”, it sounds so cliche but its true! I still see my company as such a small fish in such a big sea that every sale still warms my heart. Every time I see a photo of a little ones smiling face or get a message from a happy customer I am overwhelmed with love and pride.
How do you stay motivated and inspired?
I wont lie, this is hard for me. I still experience a lot of ups and downs and lean on my husband probably way too much. My motivation comes from my happy customers and some of the incredible conversations I have had with other moms. My husband has to remind me of these conversations a lot (the poor guy).
How do you maintain a work-life balance?
I am an intense planner! I focus day to day on what is most important to me, my family. When my daughter is asleep I work, sometimes that means bringing in the hubby to watch tv and tag products together, but overall my planning has kept me both sane and balanced. Don't get me wrong, I’m human and there are days I don't feel like doing any work and there are also days when I still pull all nighters to get orders done, but that just means I update my plans!
What is your proudest mom moment?
My daughter blows me away every day, just when I begin to worry she's falling behind in her development she turns around and amazes me with something. I envy her at times, she is herself all day everyday no matter where we are. She's always making people smile and laugh, she's not shy to dance in the grocery store or say hi to every passing person in the mall, those are my proudest moments!
What is your best parenting advice?
Oh my gosh, I feel like I have no clue what I am doing! If I was FORCED to give someone advice I would say trust your gut, no one knows your children better than you do. What works for you may not work for someone else, be a team with your spouse and take it on together!
