MEET MILK+CONFETTI MOM: TARA BUTTERWICK

TELL US ABOUT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

I'm an energetic positive mama that is passionate about teaching how mama's can be fit and happy! I am definitely over tired (who isn't!) but absolutely in love with life and my favourite people in it! I've got an amazing husband that can 2 step like a pro! We had 2 kids in 2 years (yep!), a 2 year old boy and a 9 month old daughter who take up all our time (in the best way!!). We also were crazy enough to adopt a 1 year old black lab who flunked out of guide dog school (#canyousaydropout!).

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOM MOMENT AS OF DATE?

I feel luck to have a lot of proud mom moments. I try to be conscious of the time I have with my kids. When I was pregnant with my second (now my daughter) I was a high risk pregnancy, I was on bed rest and life seemed unmanageable. I was able to find creative ways of playing with my son (who was 18 months at the time), spending precious snuggles and naps together and keeping our strong bond together all while I was going through something very stressful.

WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE AS A MOM?

I would say finding the "right" balance. I feel like becoming a parent, being a good wife, having a career.. the list goes on. This phase of life is a continual change of balance. How much time do I need, do I give my husband, are the kids getting enough of us? Are the kids getting the best of us? The truth is, it continues to change as ages of kids and their stimulation required changes. So my best advice is to just go with the flow, have open communication with your partner and you deserve mama "me" time. It definitely helps me feel better when I get exercise and some time to feel like myself!

WHAT IS ONE THING ABOUT YOUR LIFE/SELF/CHARACTER, THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO PASS ONTO YOUR CHILDREN?

Honestly my easy going nature and to enjoy the moment. I feel like life is too short to spend it all stressed about things that either do or don't happen. I find since I am easy going, it helps me enjoy moments more and to let go of what I can't control and to just enjoy what I can or what is going to happen regardless. I feel as though our children definitely feed off our own energies so being calm and positive definitely helps.

WHEN THE KID(S) GO TO BED, WHAT GUILTY PLEASURES TO YOU LIKE TO INDULGE IN?

Well I only now have 2 kids that go to bed at the same time (heck yes!), so I would by lying if I didn't say Netflix and chill.. but I also love me a real hot bath and a glass of wine, a movie (if I can stay up that late!) and the occasional episode of the bachelor (and by occasional I mean every one!)

HOW WAS BEING A MOTHER MADE YOU STRONGER?

Honestly I never knew how strong I was until I became a mom. I used to "think" I had a strong head and I was driven, but being a mom your challenged daily and it's not in a "I don't like this person at work" kinda way. It's in a my child isn't sleeping, they aren't feeding properly, why do tantrums exist.. and these little people live with you! Even from having a 32 week old preemie, high risk pregnancy, losing over 60 lbs (between 2 pregnancies), battling the lack of sleep, postpartum healing issues.. the list can go on. BUT I absolutely love that my mama strength helped me get through it and I am so proud of my self. The memories with our children, how they make us feel and how we make them feel is one million percent worth it and amazing and I guess it just shows me that literally I CAN get through anything.
